This video is our “end of the year party” (Dog Walking – Romp in the Forest).

It is an opportunity to discuss some of the benefits of exercise for your dog and you.

Exercise is important for your dog and you: “Menssana in corporesano”, the Latin phrase, usually translated as “a healthy mind in a healthy body”. Exercise is beneficial for all dogs, young and old. It is important in maintaining physical and mental well-being.

Here is how exercising with your dog is beneficial to both of you.

Together with good nutrition, it drastically reduces the risk of obesity. This allows your dog and you to enjoy many physical activities and maintain speed and stamina. Obesity is associated with certain medical problems, including arthritic changes in joints carrying too much weight, increased risk of torn ligaments, back problems, cardiac problems, difficulty breathing and depression.

In dogs, it helps reduce or eliminate common behaviours, such as digging, excessive barking, chewing and hyperactivity. These behaviours are probably due to boredom.

Regular exercise allows your dog to become more confident and socialized with exposure to new situations and environments.

Appropriate exercise for your dog is another topic of discussion. It is important to keep in mind, puppies, seniors and certain breeds of dogs have different exercise requirements.

A tired dog is a happy dog!
